Trust FAQ

Panama trust
questions answered.

What is the difference between a trust and a foundation?

In a trust, legal ownership transfers to the trustee. In a foundation, the foundation itself owns the assets. Both protect assets but with different governance.

Is a Panama trust private?

Yes. The trust agreement is a private document not filed with any public registry.

Can I be the trustee of my own trust?

No. A licensed Panama trustee (bank or licensed fiduciary) must act as trustee. You can be the settlor and/or beneficiary.

Can the trust be revoked?

Trusts can be revocable or irrevocable depending on the objectives. Revocable trusts offer less creditor protection but more flexibility.

What assets can a Panama trust hold?

Bank accounts, real estate, shares, bonds, insurance policies and other assets globally.
